In summer 2026, Levorato Marcevaggi completed the acquisition of Valero Equity Services Limited, the company that owns and operates the jet fuel storage facility and into-plane fuelling service at East Midlands Airport. It is a step that brings our aviation services to the home of the UK’s second largest air cargo operation. With the facility comes a team of experienced professionals and a fleet already operating to JIG standards. East Midlands Airport is home to the UK’s second largest air cargo operation. It handles more than 440,000 tonnes of goods every year, with growth of 50% forecast over the next fifteen years. DHL, UPS, FedEx and Royal Mail all use it as a hub, and the airport operates 24 hours a day with no runway slot restrictions.<\/p>\n
Cargo is only part of the picture. The airport also connects more than 4.2 million passengers with over 90 destinations. It is backed by the UK Government through the creation of the country’s only inland Freeport, and a \u00a3120 million investment programme is further strengthening its infrastructure.<\/p>\n
For a jet fuel operator, these numbers translate into a very specific requirement. An airport that works around the clock needs a fuel supply chain it can rely on at any hour, with storage, quality control and aircraft refuelling performing consistently in every season. That is exactly the kind of environment our aviation division is built for.<\/p>\n
The operation at East Midlands Airport combines fuel storage and into-plane services within a single company, covering the full cycle from the tank farm to the aircraft.<\/p>\n
The biggest tank farm currently operational at East Midlands Airport includes above-ground tanks in epoxy-lined carbon steel, equipped with floating suctions, stainless steel pipework and a full system of high and independent high-high level alarms. A 110% concrete bund with outfall to an interceptor provides environmental protection.<\/p>\n
The facility is operated to JIG standards, the requirements developed by the Joint Inspection Group for quality control, operational procedures and safety in aviation fuel handling. These are the same standards that guide every aviation operation we run, and they will remain the foundation of our work at East Midlands Airport.<\/p>\n
Infrastructure only performs as well as the people who run it. At East Midlands Airport, the operation is managed by a team of professionals.<\/p>\n
Every member of the team holds an HGV Class 1 licence, and together they manage all operational aspects of the site and of into-plane fuelling. Operational staff cover all seven days of the week, supporting an airport that is open around the clock.<\/p>\n
The refuelling fleet consists of bowsers compliant with JIG 1 Issue 13, recently strengthened with new-build vehicles. For airlines and cargo operators, this means continuity: the same experienced people and the same procedures, now part of Levorato Marcevaggi.<\/p>\n
